Possible Futures….Art and Bitcoin?
As the Euro clings to life, a direct result of the financial crisis of 2007-08, debates and activity regarding transition out of, or survival in, the current economic system, dominate the cultural field.
One of the many exciting and alternate peer to peer online currencies is Bitcoin, now accepted alongside sterling and euros at the Firestation.
While Bitcoin remains problematic for those with a systemic critique of the present, it is none the less an interesting experiment and should be seen as part of a wider discourse, regarding how we may remunerate labour, trade goods and more importantly, socially reproduce ourselves both now and in the future.
Is the Firestation the first arts venue to accept Bitcoin?!?
While we are prepared to believe this may not be the case, any counterclaim to this must be backed up with supporting evidence. Send us your contradictory hyperlinks and we will try our best to bury them at the bottom of a google search.
Also please feel free to send us any spare Bitcoin if your feeling generous.
Current Bitcoin exchange rates can be found here.
Like paranoid millenarians we are keeping a close eye on the economic horizon. As such FireyThingsproduce can also be purchased in Bitcoins.
For non- digital natives - i.e noobs, beginners and the just plain curious, here is a useful guide to help you understand Bitcoin and to aid you in the process of Bitcoin generation, you have no excuses (other than your electricity bill)-so get mining.
